Alun Mason is a Consulting Naval Architect and Marine Surveyor. After spending a period of time at sea with a coastal shipping company, Alun subsequently spent three years at Newcastle University where he went on to achieve an Honours degree in Naval Architecture. Upon graduating in 1992, Alun joined T.R. Little & Co., as a Naval Architect and became a Partner of the company in 1999.
In May 2004, T.R. Little & Co. joined forces with Taylor & Co. (Marine) Ltd., becoming Taylor Marine TR Little. Alun chose to further his career with the newly formed company by joining as a Naval Architect, and has been involved in numerous surveys on behalf of Underwriters, Shipowners and Repairers, Charterers, Port Authorities, insurance companies (P&I, H&M etc.), Salvors, Average Adjusters, law firms and cargo interests, etc., in numerous matters involving Naval Architecture, including:
Production of design drawings for new builds and conversions of a diverse range of vessels, including passenger, cargo, workboats and pleasure crafts.
Planning approvals and trials of new builds, before, during and after commissioning.
Production of general arrangements, capacity, fire and safety plans, etc.
Preparing technical specifications.
Estimation of costs for conversions.
Survey and assessments of costs of repair works.
Lightship checks, inclining experiments, stability calculations and production of official stability booklets for a wide range of vessel types.

Structural steelwork inspections for new builds and ships in service.
Towage approvals, Voyage and Warranty work.
Assessment of damages to Port installations, Linkspans and Dock estates.
On/Off Hire, Draught and Bunker surveys.
Pre-load surveys of project and heavy lift cargoes.
Load and lashing equipment inspections.
Condition and pre-purchase surveys.
Alun is a member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, and is a member of the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors.
