Maersk Honam

March 2018

Whilst on passage in the Arabian Sea on 6th March 2018 from Singapore to Suez Canal and subsequent European ports, the 15000+ teu container vessel "Maersk Honam" suffered an explosion on board, followed by a major fire in the cargo hold, leading to several crew fatalities.  Salvage operations were initiated under an LOF contract due to the crew being unable to extinguish the fire, giving rise to General Average.

Taylor Marine Liverpool were appointed on behalf of Salvors, with Taylor Marine Hamburg engaged by cargo P&I insurers, and our team will shortly be attending on board the casualty at Jebel Ali, the designated port of refuge.
